Germany: 162 Mt CO2 in street traffic can be reduced by 230 Mt

No, no typing mistake, no editor with 3 per mill at the keyboard, 230 Millionen tons is the theoretical maximum of CO2 reduction by making electric power out of fuel.



  Theoretical maximum: 230 TWh less electric power from coal and lignite


When all the fuel used for street traffic 2004 in Germany would be made to electric power by CCPP with 58% efficiency, there would be 358 TWh electric power. 128 TWh delivered to 45 million electric cars and trucks and to replace with the remaining 230 TWh electric power from coal ang lignite. This less electric power from coal and lignite saves 230 Mt CO2.

  Save 132 Mt CO2 with half the fuel


Naturally, we would not use all the expensive fuel to make electric power out of it, only to shut down coal and lignite power plants. Let's take only half of the fuel, that's still enough vor 179 TWh. Still 51 TWh more than the 45 Million electric cars need. There is the CO2 reduction much smaller. 81 Mt for less fuel, 51 TWh less electric power from coal and lignite are still 132 Mt less CO2.

  Electric mobility + Wind + Sun = Exit from coal electricity


The smaller consumption of electric drive systems compared to the ICE together with electric power from wind and sun are the base for a fast exit from the very climate destructive electric power from coal and lignite.

50% fuel + 168 TWh from sun and wind = 300 Mt less CO2.

  • Replace the CO2 monster traffic with fossile fuel by electric mobility
  • Replace the CO2 monster coal power plant by 1/4 fuel 3/4 renewable energy
  • 168 TWh more electricity from renewable energy

  Therefor electric cars instead of coal power plants
