Hybrid: drive test mit VW Passat

With a just normal seral VW Passat 1979 LS, I made my first test with hybrid drive. A distance of 400m was driven electric alone.

  Extreme strong rain over Salzburg

Only a few meters from the door of the company Skidata to the parking lot had been enough to be complete wet. In the Alpenstraße, it feels more like motorboat driving than car driving. At the first traffic light in Salzburg, the internal comustion engine stops. Maybe wet carburetor or something else to wet.

  Swicht to secondary propulsion systems

Maybe I have seen to much starship enterprise at this time. I mubled something like "Switch to secondary propulsion system", turned the ignition key and started driving in the 3rd gear. After 100m turn left. A sinkhole, much uphill at the other side, I have to use the 2nd gear. Turn right and 200m more to go to the SAMTC Salzburg, where a service technican got my ICE running.

  Battery and starter survived

The drive shows, that complete normal vehicles can do the most important trick of the hybrid drive. To go some hundred meters slowly with electric power. In the city traffic can be much fuel saved when the ICE is switched off at every red traffic light, maybe to roll without ICE towards the red traffic light. And very improtant to move slowly in a traffic jam without using the ICE.
