From 1988 to 2018 in only 30 years is a complete turn over of the prices at fuels for cars. Numbers based on German prices and solar radiation.

For the compare, we take 5 litre Diesel / 100 km for a vehicle with only fossile propulsion system. Für Plug-in Hybridautos of this size are 15 kWh / 100 km assumed.

Only 20 years ago

Photovoltaic was something very exotix and very expensive. With a credit financed photovoltaic, about 1.-EUR per kWh electric power in Germany. 15.-EUR for 100 km.

Diesel price war only 60 Cent. So the Diesel engine car had only 3.-EUR fuel costs for 100km.

Turning point 2008

January 2008 war in Austria Diesel at 1.20 EUR. 5 litre are 6.-EUR. At a credit financed photovoltaic are 40 Cent/kWh usual. Also 6.-EUR

So in the 20 years from 1988 to 2008, a 1:5 price difference was brought to a tie.

Price prognosis 2018

The Diesel price has only doubled in the last 20 years. But when PeakOil had been 2006, we have to assume a much faster price increas. With 150%, it would be 3.-EUR per litre in 2018

5 litre at 3.-EUR are 15.-EUR, as much as 15 kWh solar electric power 1988.

At photovoltaic will be the price halve because of new thin film technology and mass production. 1 kWh solar electric power for 20 Cent.

15 kWh for 20 Cent are 3.-EUR, as much as the 5 litre Diesel 1988.
